A weaker antelope that doesn’t run the fastest will eventually be captured by a lion. To avoid that, it has to keep pushing herself, try to run faster and move to the head of the herd. The same is with people. If you don’t push yourself to your limits and if you don’t try hard enough, you come in last. If there ever comes a time in your life when you stop working on yourself, you stop evolving as a human being. Progress is a natural course towards improvement. It doesn’t come easily. It takes time, patience and dedication. It implies working hard to meet the objectives you’ve set and it means you don’t give up.
“We have to continually be jumping off cliffs and developing our wings on the way down.”
― Kurt Vonnegut
Progress is a word to describe the act of moving forward. You learn from the past, but you don’t live in the past. If this world doesn’t meet your standards, change it for the better. Nothing ever stays the same. It always goes with time. Your mind, your thoughts and your actions, they all take shape with what you know and what you want to alter. New innovations, ideas and theories are the foundation for progress in society. Try to think of all of the inventions that came before you that made the life you live today. Those are all products of thinking differently; products of a different concept.
“You never change things by fighting the existing reality.
To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
―R. Buckminster Fuller
And when you do come up with something new, something different or you acquire new knowledge, you don’t stop there. When you go through the finish line and win one race, you move onto a new one you want to win. You keep on going. Your mind keeps racing and it tells you to move. If you stop, you lose. And nobody likes to lose. It might be a long race and you might be exhausted, but take all the time you need, because in the end you’ll get what you desire.
“Well, I always know what I want. And when you know what you want-you go toward it. Sometimes you go very fast, and sometimes only an inch a year. Perhaps you feel happier when you go fast. I don’t know. I’ve forgotten the difference long ago, because it really doesn’t matter, so long as you move.”
―Ayn Rand
At the end of the day ask yourself: “Did I move forward in my life from the point where I was standing in the morning?” Have you done a step towards something new, something that will not only change you, but also those around you? If yes, then you truly did progress. How you apply yourself in making changes is how the world sees you. And even a small step in making new ideas become reality is a step in the right direction.
“Ideas and not battles mark the forward progress of mankind.”
― L. Ron Hubbard
How will you make the world go forward?
